Screen Reader Users
All graphics on this site that are not purely decorative include alt text. Heading and other semantic elements are also used appropriately and thoroughly. Style sheets rather than images are used to create font effects. Links are worded to make sense even when read out of context. [Intro]
Keyboard Support
This site provides link and form field focus in all themes so that if you use your Tab key to tab from link to link you should be able to orient yourself at all times. We also provide jump links that will appear at the top of the page as you enter the site with your keyboard. You will also find links, such as “top” and “intro” links, in various places to make it easier to get around a page. You can also use your Page Up, Page Down, and arrow keys: ↑, →, ↓, and ← to move within each page.
Important: Please note that these features are not available to all browsers. The jump links, for example, are not available to Opera users because Opera’s built-in tools (Tab for forms, and the “a” key for links) override the instructions. Safari may also prove challenging; it may not have keyboard support turned on by default. To change this, go to Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Press Tab check. [Intro]
Text Browser Support
The appropriate use of headings and inter- and intra-site links, combined with semantic mark-up or code, is useful for those with text browsers. This site was tested in the Lynx browser. [Intro]
Text Resizing
All pages on this site have been designed to work with the text resizing features of your browser. On most browsers you can enlarge your text by going to View > Text Resize or Text Size > Choose setting. On some browsers, you can also use your keyboard to enlarge or decrease the page’s text. Try Ctrl++ on a P.C. or Cmd++ on a Mac to enlarge text. Use Ctrl+- on a P.C. or Cmd+- on a Mac to reduce the text. Ctrl+0/Cmd+0 on many browsers will reset to the default size. Finally, on some browsers you can also use your scroll wheel equipped mouse. Hold your Ctrl or Cmd key and start scrolling. In Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) and Opera, the scroll wheel will zoom the page instead of resizing the text.
Important: This site will accommodate at least two text enlargement steps. Due to the word length on the category links (with the default page style in use) some category links may be cut off with larger text sizes (when using default page style) depending on screen size. Alt Text Usage
All embedded images on this site have an alt attribute. Graphics that are purely decorative and have no informative value have an empty alt attribute. Images that require a longer description will have a longdesc attribute. [Intro]

Where possible, we either expand the first instance of any abbreviation within the content of each applicable web page or use the appropriate abbreviation element: either abbr or the acronym, depending on the instance.

Simplified Summaries
Where content on a page of this website requires reading ability more advanced than the lower secondary education level (9th grade), a Simplified Summary is provided. This feature is required to meet AAA Success Criteria 3.1.5 of WCAG 2.0.
Style Preferences
This site offers several different style options, also known as themes, in addition to the standard print option and a handheld style. The handheld theme is designed to optimize the site on handheld devices such as Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs).
The default style is named “Default Page Theme.” There is also a basic theme and reverse page style. These options are selectable by way of the links in this section, or from the page tools menu on every page (side bar). On that menu, while the default theme is in use, you can also remove all backgrounds (restore backgrounds). These feature are available page-by-page, but if you accept HTTP cookies, your preferences will be saved, provided your next visit is with the same computer, connection, and browser.
Note: If you find yourself in a style/theme other than the one you want, find the page tools and select a different style/theme.
Important: Opera users may have to refresh pages if the style reverts. This is because the old style sheet is in the browser’s cache. [Intro]
Handheld Devices
For handheld devices, there is a style sheet assigned to the handheld media-type. If your handheld device doesn’t recognize or use that media-type as it should you can select it from the page tools menu. Use the basic or reverse style sheets as noted in the preferences info. The basic and reverse page styles should be acceptable in any type of device. [Intro]
Printing Content
A “print” style sheet is automatically used if you print pages from this site. It strips out images and navigation and other side bar menus. See our copyright statement in connection with printing from this site. If you support JavaScript, there is a handy link in our page tools menu. Scripting
The vast majority of scripting used on this site is called PHP Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP) and it is a server-side scripting language, meaning it doesn’t involve your browser and requires no plugins or add-ons on your end. There is, however, a small amount of JavaScript in use that affects you.
- First there is a Print Entry/Page feature (side bar) that instructs your computer to print. If you don’t have JavaScript enabled or you don’t support it, the Print Entry/Page feature will not be offered. Instead you will be given a link to this topic.
- Second, form focus is offered by way of our default and handheld style sheets (only). Internet Explorer versions 5-7, however, does not support this so a script was added to implement it. If you don’t have JavaScript enabled this feature will not be available to you. The forms on this site will all work without this feature.
